JALC Prepares Jazz in the Schools Fall Tour

As part of Jazz at Lincoln Center’s (JALC) Jazz in the Schools program, the Matthew Rybicki Quintet will headline the Fall 2005 tour, titled “Singin’ and Swingin’: The Music of Duke Ellington,” and travel to schools throughout New York City’s five boroughs.

The ensemble will perform hour-long interactive lessons Nov. 7 through Nov. 16 at schools, and then at JALC’s Rose Hall on Nov. 17 and 18. Each lesson will introduce the children, grades 2-9, to Duke Ellington, with an overview of his life, musical impact and the breadth of his music. The quintet will also describe and demonstrate various instruments on their tour, discuss jazz, blues, swing, improvisation and musical form and conclude their performance with a question and answer session.
