JAI Announces “Jazz Up Your Campus” Contest

The Jazz Alliance International has announced its “Jazz Up Your Campus” contest. Attempting to show how jazz has influenced some of today’s more popular genres, including hip-hop and R&B, the contest is designed to engage students and encourage them to learn more about jazz and contribute to a nationwide music promotion, bringing jazz music to Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU’s) across the nation.

Interested students are encouraged to submit an essay concept (300-500 words) on introducing young, diverse populations on HBCU campuses to jazz, incorporating the major tenants of jazz, including freedom, expressionism and innovation. Concepts should include an outline or fulfillment strategy, the number of targeted students, campus/student involvement and the use of current technology. All submissions will be entered in a chance to win round-trip airfare plus four days and three nights in New York City.
