Here’s a quick notice for fans of Les Paul in New York City, or anyone who wants to drive to New York City for Paul’s birthday party. The Iridium Jazz Club, which has hosted the guitarist/inventor/music industry luminary and his trio in a standing Monday-night gig for the past eight years, will celebrate The Man’s 88th birthday June 9. There will be two sets, at 8 p.m. and 10 p.m., and special guests Al DiMeola, Russell Malone, Pat Martino, Bucky Pizzarelli, Jon Paris and likely some others will be on hand to celebrate and aid Paul and his band in music making. I caught the party last year and it was a good time. Paul is one funny man, and the music was groovy.
