Iridium Begins Film Series

New York City’s Iridium Jazz Club plans to add a new element to its recently-opened compound at Broadway and 51st Street. The famed venue will begin screening classic jazz films before its nightly performances, providing patrons with both an easy way to learn more about jazz and another pre-show diversion besides drinks and dinner.
Thelonious Monk: Straight No Chaser will be the first film in the series, preceding a performance by the Michael Brecker Quartet. The film features footage of Monk on tour, in the studio and behind the stage, making for an interesting evening’s entertainment even without the promise of live jazz. Whenever possible, the films chosen will complement the artists who follow, as in the series’ second week, when Miles Davis: Live at Montreux will be shown before a performance by the Miles Davis All-Stars.

The screenings will start at approximately 7 p.m.; music begins at 8:45 p.m. For more information on Iridium, visit www.iridiumjazzclub.com or call (212) 582-2121.
