In Concert Tonight: Bang On A Can All-Stars

No plans tonight? Live in or around New York City? Like the sounds of bells, whistles, strings, synths, samples, etc.?

If so, head on down to Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center tonight for an 8:00 p.m. concert by avant-garde/ambient chamber group Bang On A Can All-Stars with clarinetist Don Byron and Burmese drum circle king Kyaw Kyaw Naing. The group will be premiering four new Naing compositions in addition to performing the New York premieres of Byron’s “Eugene 1” and composer/guitarist Scott Johnson’s “The Illusion of Guidance.” An old Bang On A Can favorite, Tan Dun’s “Concerto for Six,” is also on the setlist.

And if you’re able to get out of the house early, a pre-concert talk with founding members of Bang On A Can and composers Michael Gordon, David Lang and Julia Wolfe will take place at 6:45 p.m. in the Stanley H. Kaplan Penthouse, The Rose Building, 70 Lincoln Center Plaza, 10th Floor. They’ll talk shop and get you excited for the concert.

Tickets for the show are $30 and are available at the Alice Tully box office, through CenterCharge at (212) 721-6500, or online at www.lincolncenter.org.
