Hollywood Bowl Announces Summer Schedule

The Hollywood Bowl announced its Summer 2007 season, including the “Jazz at the Bowl” lineup on Wednesday nights. Queen Latifah opens the jazz concert series on July 11 (you mean you didn’t know she is a jazz singer in addition to being an actress and rapper?).

The renowned Los Angeles concert venue will close “Jazz at the Bowl” on Sept. 5 with the B.B. King Blues Festival. Robert Randolph & the Family Band will open for King along with English retro-crooner James Hunter.

Here are some of the season highlights:

On July 18, the Hollywood Bowl celebrates “50 Years of Stax” with William Bell, Mable John, Booker T. Jones, Eddie Floyd and other special guests. Isaac Hayes will close out the evening.

Lee Ritenour & Friends (including Dave Grusin, Patrice Rushen, Brian Bromberg and Alex Acuña), John Scofield, and African guitarist Lionel Loueke and Gilfema will all appear on Aug. 15 for “Guitar Night.”

The following week, Dave Brubeck returns to the Bowl with special guest Madeleine Peyroux, in her Bowl debut, and the Bruce Hornsby Trio.

On Aug. 29, Nancy Wilson (pictured) will celebrate her 70th birthday with an all-star event hosted by Arsenio Hall. Ramsey Lewis will open the evening on piano, with appearances by Regina Carter, Kurt Elling, Nnenna Freelon and other artists to be announced.
