Herbie Hancock to Open Vancouver International Jazz Festival

Herbie Hancock had a busy 2007: The jazz pianist, who already has 10 Grammy awards under his belt, collected another nomination last year for his critically acclaimed album River: The Joni Letters. This year, Hancock will continue making waves when he opens the 23rd annual TD Canada Trust Vancouver International Jazz Festival. Hancock’s performance will take place June 20th at the Orpheum Theatre.

The festival, which takes place June 20th to June 29th at more than 40 venues, will also feature Wynton Marsalis, the music director of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra. Marsalis, who is the first recipient of the prestigious Pulitzer Prize in music, will perform at the Orpheum with the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra on June 27th. Another icon, Dave Brubeck, will perform at the Orpheum with his quartet on June 23rd.

Tickets for the festival cost $65 to $75 and go on sale Jan. 17th at 10 a.m. Tickets can be purchased through Ticketmaster or by calling (604) 872-5200.
