Hendrix Live at Monterey DVD and CD to be released Oct. 16

On Oct. 16, Hendrix fans can see and hear his groundbreaking concert at the Monterey International Pop Festival for the first time ever with the release of The Jimi Hendrix Experience: Live at Monterey.

The Jimi Hendrix Experience: Live at Monterey, released by Experience Hendrix/Geffen/UMe on DVD, will give viewers all existing film footage of Hendrix’s June 18, 1967 concert, presented in the performance’s original sequence. And the original footage has been transformed from 16mm to high-definition, giving Hendrix fans a clear, sharp view of the concert.

The DVD also offers numerous bonus features, such as “A Second Look,” an interactive component that will allow viewers to switch between numerous camera angles of footage; “American Landing,” a documentary with an unreleased interview with Hendrix; and “Music, Love and Flowers,” a detailed look at the Monterey International Pop Festival with the event’s co-founder, Lou Adler.

And if the DVD isn’t enough for Hendrix fans, two audio recordings-one on CD, one on vinyl-are also slated for release Oct. 16, and a five-city concert tour in honor of Hendrix’s music kicks off that day at Constitution Hall in Washington with artists such as Robert Randolph, Jonny Lang and others.

[Ed. Note: OK, we know this is the official Web site of JazzTimes, but we also know that many full-blown jazzbos are also hopeless Jimi-philes. And after all, remember that great Hendrix JT cover with a story by Bill Milkowski in the August ’01 issue?]
