Guitarist Mike Stern Signs to Heads Up

Grammy-nominated guitarist Mike Stern has signed with crossover jazz label Heads Up after releasing 2004’s These Times on ESC. Prior to that, Stern had a 15-year tenure at Atlantic. His debut Heads Up recording is due out Aug. 22, 2006.

Stern started his storied career as a guitar player at the age of 22 with Blood, Sweat & Tears. From there, he moved to New York City and was recruited by Miles Davis and played a key role in his band’s 1981 comeback. Stern’s 1993 release, Standards (And Other Songs), earned him Guitar Player magazine’s Best Jazz Guitarist of the Year honors, while Voices, Stern’s 2003 release, marked his foray into vocal music and earned him a third Grammy nomination.
