Grammy Awards: Jazz Edition

The 49th Annual Grammy Awards went off with a bang on Sunday night, offering such surreal moments as Tony Bennett presenting an award with film maverick Quentin Tarantino, and Ornette Coleman (pictured) handing off a trophy to American Idol‘s Carrie Underwood with the help of Natalie Cole. Cheers to the Red Hot Chili Peppers, whose bassist Flea appeared with “Love to Ornette Coleman” spraypainted on his amp stacks. Nice work. Anyway, the winners are…

Jazz Instrumental Solo: “Some Skunk Funk,” Michael Brecker
Jazz Instrumental Album, Individual or Group: “The Ultimate Adventure,” Chick Corea
Large Jazz Ensemble Album: “Some Skunk Funk,” Randy Brecker with Michael Brecker, Jim Beard, Will Lee, Peter Erskine, Marcio
Jazz Vocal Album: “Turned to Blue,” Nancy Wilson
Pop Collaboration With Vocals: “For Once in My Life,” Tony Bennett and Stevie Wonder
Latin Jazz Album: “Simpatico,” the Brian Lynch/Eddie Palmieri Project
