The Caribbean-influenced Los Angeles trio Gold
Coast is donating a portion of the proceeds from its new CD to cancer research. The album, entitled Latitudes, was written and recorded by percussionist John Pickell, bassist John Ugarte, and guitarist Jonathan Coleman, who also adds marimba and vibraphone to the sound. Joining Gold Coast on the recording as special guests are keyboardist Patrice Rushen, bassist Dave Carpenter, trumpeter Oscar Brashear, saxophonist Gerald Albright, and drummer Ndugu Chancler. The debut, self-titled Gold Coast CD earned Coleman the Best Jazz Guitarist award at the 2000 Los Angeles Music Awards. Latitudes is available online at www.goldcoastmusic.net.
