Gillespie Concert Webcast

Those elastic cheeks, that upwardly bent, yelping trumpet. Do you miss Dizzy Gillespie? Of course you do. And if you’ve worn out every version of “A Night in Tunisia” you own on record and still want more Dizzy, a previously unscreened Gillespie concert is currently running on realcastproductions.com for you to see and hear, provided you supply credit card info to cover the $5.99 price.

The concert was caught on film on May 1, 1990 at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park, N.J., roughly three years before Gillespie’s death. His band at the time was comprised of bassist John Lee, guitarist Ed Cherry, tenor saxophonist Ron Holloway and drummer Ignacio Berroa.

This is the first Webcast in RealCastLive’s Winter Jazz Series, which will later feature shows by Dave Valentin, Ray Barretto and Gato Barbieri. With a speedy and sturdy Internet connection, the film looks and sounds great. To watch it, visit realcastproductions.com.
