Guitarist George Freeman, an elder statesman of the Chicago jazz scene and venerable member of the musical Freeman family, gets a rare chance to shine out front on this disc.
Freeman gives a rollicking program, full of Chicago fire and his individualistic tone, with the fine piano of Lou Gregory and the rare, soulful return of Eldee Young on bass. There are striking guest shots by brother Von on one tune, the vocals of Ron Cooper and still-young Joanie Pallato, and contributions by producer Sparrow.
The overall energy and freewheeling vibe live up to the double-entendre title. Freeman should still continue to burn at 100.
