A shakeup is taking place at Gavin, a top news media service that covers radio and music industry news through a monthly print magazine, internet Web site (www.gavin.com) and daily fax services.
Nearly all of Gavin’s upper management team is stepping down. CEO David Dalton, CFO Betty Hollars, Editor-In-Chief Reed Bunzel and Art Director Peter Grame will resign in coming weeks in an effort “to streamline Gavin’s operations and ensure profitability,” according to a Music Magnet Media press release. Further changes include the termination of the Jazz and Smooth Jazz Charts section of the publication.
Gavin started as a weekly tipsheet for radio programmers in the 1950s and has since emerged as one of the top resources for music news and information. Whether or not the infrastructural changes will have a discernable impact on the music industry will become apparent in the coming weeks.
Gavin plans to continue operating with the remaining staff at its offices in San Francisco, in cooperation with Paul Gallo, an executive at Gavin’s parent company, United Media in New York.
