Grammy award-winning jazz vibraphonist Gary Burton (pictured) is set to host a new weekly Sirius Satellite Radio music program, Artist’s Choice with Gary Burton.
Over his long career, Burton has worked with greats such as Pat Metheny, John Scofield, Chick Corea, Stan Getz and George Shearing. He was awarded his first Grammy in 1972 for Best Jazz Solo Instrumental Performance for his album Alone At Last . Burton is also a renowned music educator, and has served as professor and dean at Berklee College of Music in Boston for 33 years. Burton has since stepped down from his leadership role at Berklee to concentrate on recording and his new show on SIRIUS.
“I became a fan of SIRIUS when I bought a new car a year ago,” he said in a press release. “Finally, I could hear what I wanted to hear, when I wanted to hear it. Now, I couldn’t be more pleased to be joining the SIRIUS team as host of my own show.”
Jay Clark, SIRIUS Executive Vice President of Programming, said he has always recognized Burton as an accomplished vibraphonist. “His knowledge of the art form is unmatched,” Clark said in a press release. “We are very lucky that every week SIRIUS subscribers across the country will get an artist’s perspective on this music, with all the insight and experience than only Gary can offer.”
Artist’s Choice with Gary Burton can be heard on SIRIUS channel 72, Pure Jazz, every Sunday from 10 am to 4 pm ET.
