Frank Foster Honored at Waterside Jazz Legends Gala

NEA Jazz Master, legendary saxophonist, composer, arranger, bandleader and educator-a veritable jack-of-all-trades in the jazz universe-Frank Foster will be honored at the Waterside Jazz Legends Gala on Sunday, Dec. 10 at the Norfolk Marriott Waterside Convention Center. Foster’s Loud Minority Big Band will perform under the direction of Cecil Bridgewater; Nnenna Freelon, Joe Sample and Freddy Cole (Nat’s brother) will also perform.

The gala includes a jazz brunch, a VIP reception and the above-mentioned performances, as well as guest appearances-as honorariums-by Dr. Billy Taylor, Hank Jones, Donald Byrd, Nicholas Payton, Derrick Gardner, Frank Wess, Ron Carter, Winard Harper, Christian McBride and Nancy Wilson.
