Coming straight off a stint at the Vanguard with Brad Mehldau, the über-rhythm-section of Jeff Ballard (drums) and Larry Grenadier (bass) is rejoining postbop saxophonist Mark Turner to tour Europe as Fly.
Fly released one self-titled disc (pictured) on Savoy in 2004, about which JazzTimes critic Aaron Steinberg raved, “If your ears are starved for innovative jazz that blends punchy sax lines and dense, wild, worldbeat-flavored bass and drum rhythms, let this newly formed trio with an amazing pedigree fill the bill.”
Below are dates and locations for the European tour, as well as info on stateside gigs planned for Jan. 2007. Fly also plans to release a second album sometime next year.
