Fitzgerald Photographs on Display in New Orleans

April is jazz month in New Orleans, and this year, Ella Fitzgerald (pictured) is set to star in an exhibit at the Robert Bruno Gallery. The exhibit features Steven Forster’s photographs of music legends and comes just in time to welcome visitors to the 36th New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, which takes place from April 22 to May 1.

The exhibit was inspired by Forster’s longtime fascination with Fitzgerald’s voice. “She inspired me artistically and musically and has always been a part of my life,” Forster said in a press release.

Forster originally photographed Fitzgerald on stage in 1979, but then believed the negatives of the shoot had been destroyed in a fire. In October, Forster found a set of the missing negatives in an envelope and the idea for his legends of jazz exhibit was born.

Photos of Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, Nancy Wilson, Quincy Jones and B.B. King will also appear in the exhibit. For more information, visit the Robert Bruno Gallery Web site at www.robertbrunogallery.com.
