Repackaging makes the world go ’round, as many jazz labels can attest. Fantasy has gone ahead and decided to repackage its “Best of” series, which in itself is repackaged tunes and debuted November last year. Calling it “Prestige Profiles,” the new series debuts Oct. 25 with ten titles, each which comes with an additional bonus CD of tracks by other Prestige artists.
Leading off the series are albums featuring the music of Miles Davis, Red Garland (pictured), Sonny Rollins, Coleman Hawkins, Eric Dolphy, Jackie McLean, Kenny Burrell, John Coltrane, Eddie “Lockjaw” Davis and – from Prestige’s Bluesville imprint – Lightnin’ Hawkins. The bonus disc accompanying each “Prestige Profile” album provides a mix of tracks from other Prestige artists including Chet Baker, Gil Evans, Art Farmer, Thelonious Monk and Billy Taylor. The compilations are bargain-priced at $11.98 each.
