You have to be able to breathe well to play saxophone at a high level. You have to be able to breathe a lot to complete a marathon. Eric Alexander (pictured left) is apparently able to do both.
Taking a break from his day job as one of the Milestone label’s mainstays, Alexander ran the Chicago Marathon recently, and finished 615th. That statistic is a lot more impressive when one considers that about 32,000 people competed in the race that day. Alexander’s time was 2:58:02 – impressive indeed, considering that most marathons are won by people who train strictly to complete the twenty-six mile courses in just over two hours. Alexander, on the other hand, was running a marathon for the first time.
The 33-year-old will next test his endurance when he becomes a father in November. As any parent will tell you, keeping a baby alive and happy is at least as challenging and exhausting as running a marathon in three hours.
