CTI Records was one of the most important independent jazz labels in the 1970s, helping mold and set the pace for what would become the fusion movement. The brainchild of jazz producer Creed Taylor, the label developed a solid following among jazz fans for the quality of its recordings and its simple but striking album covers.
Recognizing the importance of CTI, Epic/Legacy plans to reissue many of label’s titles that have remained out of print as part of their CTI Jazz Series. The first batch of releases will be available Feb. 12 and will include the following titles:
Stanley Turrentine – Sugar
Antonio Carlos Jobim – Stone Flower
Hubert Laws – Rites of Spring
Joe Farrell – Moon Germs
George Benson – Body Talk
Milt Jackson – Goodbye
Johnny Hammond – Breakout
Idris Muhammad – Power of Soul
Various Artists – CTI: The Master Collection, a 2-CD overview of the label’s history
Seven more CTI reissues will follow in June, 2002.
