Eliades Ochoa: Tribute to the Cuarteto Patria

There is Cuban musical history to be recounted and reconsidered, which is the subplot of the second album for Higher Octave by the guitarist-singer “youngster” of the Buena Vista gang, 52-year-old Eliases Ochoa. His new one, Tribute to the Cuarteto Patria, pays a respectful nod to the group Cuarteto Patria, and specifically Pancho Cabos, who founded the quartet in 1939, and who invited Ochoa to join the group back in 1978. Recorded in Santiago de Cuba, home to both Ochoa and the Cuarteto, the song set includes tunes in the son and bolero style, and features plenty of Ochoa’s rich gifts as vocalist and guitarist. The spirited album closes, fittingly enough, with “Que Sabroseao/What a Feeling!”
