Eddie Daniels and Bucky Pizzarelli: Blue Bossa

Originally released in 1973 by Gerry Macdonald’s independent Choice label, this intimate 1972 duo date puts the spotlight on Eddie Daniels’ flutes and clarinets and the nuanced comping of guitarist Bucky Pizzarelli. In addition to the title track featuring Daniels’ bass clarinet and a brilliantly bossafied take on Les McCann’s “Samia” with the leader’s sterling flute, there are surprises such as Daniels’ fluted variations over a theme by Chopin. In all, a consummately musical and simpatico session featuring two masters at the height of their interactive powers.
