For the past six years, New York’s Bass Collective music school has held Bass Day, an annual event where bass teachers and students gather to talk deeply about their art and listen to the instrument’s masters in concert. The bassists’ close friends, the drummers, have a collective/school in the city as well. This year marks the Drummer’s Collective’s 25th Anniversary and to celebrate they’re holding a Bass Day-affiliated concert event at Manhattan Center on Nov. 24.
The show will feature a slew of names familiar to jazz fans, including Steve Gadd, Dave Weckl (pictured), Steve Smith, Horacio Hernandez, John Patitucci, and Victor Wooten, as well as a Drummers Collective/Bass Collective Faculty Ensemble and special guests.
A crew from Hudson Music, who have released some fine instructional music videos, will tape the event for a DVD release in 2003.
