Dizzy Gillespie may have died 12 years ago, but only now are the contents of his estate being put up for auction. On Sept. 14, mementos from Gillespie’s life, from his career (even his trumpet) to his 53-year marriage to Lorraine Gillespie, will be made available to anyone willing to play the game and pay the price.
Some of the various items up for auction include several drums, a piano, his record collection, handwritten sheet music, hats, photographs, posters and even his personal identification cards (pictured). Special preview events will include a tribute performance by the Dizzy Gillespie All-Star Band, Dizzy film showings and more.
The auction will take place in Morris Plains, N.J. and bids will be accepted in advance of the sale and live during the sale, either in-person, by telephone or through eBay. Auction previews begin Sept. 11 and photos and more information are available at www.dawsonandnye.com.
