Delmark and U of Chicago Present Jazz Family Day

The University of Chicago will host Jazz Family Day on Thursday June 17, 2004 at 7:30 p.m. The event will feature a performance by Delmark recording artist Malachi Thompson and his acclaimed Freebop Band, which features jazz vocalist Dee Alexander.

Several guest artists will be featured alongside Thompson, a trumpeter who will play selections from his latest Delmark recording Blue Jazz. The event is presented by the Center for School Improvement at the University of Chicago, the Sutherland Community Arts Initiative and the Freebop Band.

Jazz Family Day, a celebration of the African American contribution to the development of jazz, blues, gospel and R&B, will take place at Goodspeed Hall in the Fulton Recital Hall at the University of Chicago. The Hall is located at 1010 E. 59th St. Family Day is also meant to provide an opportunity for parents to introduce their children to jazz in a formal concert setting.
