Deborah Coleman: Livin’ On Love

Deborah Coleman, Davies’ counterpart on Blind Pig Records, makes a few more concessions to hard rock and pop on Livin’ on Love but still delivers with blues-tinged passion, particularly on “Willow Tree,” “Torn in Two” and the funky title track. Her impressive guitar chops are most prominent on “Crazy,” “You’re Only Happy” and “Light of Day.” Her understated vocals, somewhat reminiscent of Tracy Chapman’s, are far less authoritative than her aggressive ax work. If you’re more enamored with the contempo crossover style of blues, you may dig this one. Purists may want to pass.
