Debbie Davies: I Feel That Feeling

Debbie Davies delivers some sting of her own on I Feel That Feeling (Blind Pig 5039; 46:36). Her three-year stint with Albert Collins’ Icebreakers accounts for her very aggressive attack on blues rockers like “Lucky In Love” and funky shuffles like the Collins standard “I Got That Feeling,” in which she trades earthy vocals and nasty guitar licks with Coco Montoya. Davies also shows a more sensitive side on the torchy “Let The Heartaches Begin,” a romantic vocal duet with Tab Benoit. On the angry-sounding “Howlin’ At The Moon” she delves into serious social commentary, then reveals her sweet soul on the gospel-flavored “Tired Angels” and the pop ballad “I Could Get Used To That.” More than just a collection of hot licks, Debbie’s third outing as a leader has wide appeal.
