Davis Celebration to Last Nine Months in Missouri

Many groups and institutions are taking a day or a week to celebrate the would-be 75th birthday of Miles Davis; the Missouri Historical Society is spending nine months. Davis was born in Illinois, but he grew up in Missouri and the Show Me State is happy to claim him as one of their own. A comprehensive, celebratory exhibit, Miles: A Miles Davis Retrospective, will open May 13 and run through February 2002. Original artifacts, photographs, audio recordings, and rare film footage will combine to tell the story of Davis’ life.

Several St. Louis area clubs, schools, and galleries will host exhibit events, including Washington University, Jazz at the Bistro, the Forum for Contemporary Art, and the Sheldon Art Galleries. For a complete list of events and locations, visit
