David “Honeyboy” Edwards: Don’t Mistreat a Fool

David “Honeyboy” Edwards, Don’t Mistreat a Fool (Adelphi/Genes 9914; 51:27)-Also recorded in 1969 by engineer Gene Rosenthal, these “lost rediscovery tapes” document the Delta blues man in the casual setting of Chicago’s old Thunderbird Motel, where he informally jammed up originals like “Myrtle Mae,” “Bull Cow Blues” and “Don’t Mistreat a Fool” with the likes of guitar greats Johnny Shines and Big Joe Williams and blues harp icon Big Walter Horton. Some shaky performances. For collectors only.
