If I received the DIY—Do It Yourself Network, the sister channel to Home & Garden Television and the Food Network—on my cable system, you can best bet I’d be watching it 24-7. See, I’m a can-do-it-myself kind of guy. Just like Dave Koz (pictured). What’s that, you say? How does smooth-jazz saxophonist Dave Koz fit into the world of cable-television networks that focus on home repairs and the like? He’s one of the many famous folks featured on DIY’s new 13-part series Celebrity Hobbies, which checks out the “hidden talents” of the stars.
While Celebrity Hobbies doesn’t kick off until May, the series will be previewed with a one-hour special, Celebrity Hobbies: The Ultimate Countdown, premiering on Sat., Mar. 22 at 6 p.m. EST. We don’t have an exact broadcast date for the Koz’s episode, but you can check out www.diynet.com closer to May to find out. Thanks to a well-written press release, however, we do know what the Koz will be featured doing: “This jazz musician puts down the sax and picks up cooking tools as he prepares some tasty home cooked Jewish food with the help of his sassy mom.” Sass and food—our faves!
Other series celebrities—like the producers of Celebrity Mole, we use the term loosely—and their hobbies and secret skills include Steve Vai (beekeeper), the recently deceased Maurice Gibb (paintball), Kathy Ireland (decorator), Debra Jo Rupp (needlepoint artist), Fabio (motorcycle collector), the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders (“scrapbookers,” whatever that is), Sally Jesse Raphael (picture framer), Javy Lopez (remote-control plane aficionado), James Avery (collector of black Americana) and many more, including Sammy Hagar, Diamond Rio and Eddie Money.
