Conundrum: The New Tea

What does one call a rock band that thinks like a world music band and plays like a jazz band but Conundrum? Founded by Boston-based engineer/keyboardist/percussionist Cyrus Sink ’round about ’95, this music collective draws from the bags of long-forgotten ’70s-’80s “progressive” bands like Soft Machine, Jade Warrior, Opa, Osamu Kitijima, and Deadline for the outer-worldly strategies executed on The New Tea (Junkwagon Records, 54:48). Nine more tracks as equally sensory overloading as the gypsy-guitars-melodica-funky-dunky-drum ‘n’ berimbau-in-Arabia-mirage of “Court at Alhambra” make this one long and strong drink of tea indeed.
