After winning an Emmy for Outstanding Music Direction for his PBS special, Only You: In Concert, and then receiving an American Music Award nomination for Favorite Contemporary Artist, Harry Connick, Jr. continues to claim the spotlight with the upcoming release of two DVDs.
Columbia will release both the Harry for the Holidays DVD and the Only You: In Concert DVD/live CD bundle on November 2. Harry for the Holidays is NBC’s popular holiday concert and features Connick and his exceptional 16-piece big band performing traditional and original Christmas songs. He and his band, along with a string section, perform classics like “Blue Christmas,” “Silent Night” and “Frosty the Snowman.” The performance also contains some of Connick’s original Christmas songs, including “(It Must’ve Been Ol’) Santa Claus” and “The Happy Elf.”
The holiday performance also features cameos from singers Mark Anthony and Kim Burrell and actors Whoopi Goldberg and Nathan Lane. The album Harry for the Holidays was the top-selling Christmas album of 2003.
Coming out the same day is a special edition of the Only You: In Concert DVD bundled with a live CD of the concert. The album features a selection of ’50s and ’60s standards and debuted at number five on the Billboard chart and quickly achieved RIAA Platinum status when it was released in February. This album release also earned him a 2004 American Music Awards nomination.
