Complete Jack Johnson Set Details

Last Wednesday we announced that a box-set chronicling Miles Davis’ sessions for his A Tribute to Jack Johnson will be coming out in September via Columbia/Legacy. Don’t get jealous, but we received it last week, albeit in “advance promotional copy” form.

Proclaiming Jack Johnson the “greatest rock-n-roll record ever made,” our advance copy has all five CDs to be included in the finished product, as well as new essays by Michael Cuscuna, Bob Belden and Bill Milkowski. We’ll let one of our critics give you the skinny on the musical content when it’s released, until then let’s just say that Jack Johnson producer Teo Macero, who assembled the original, 50-minute album from the four and a half hours of music documented in this set, left lots of good stuff on the cutting room floor.
