Columbus Jazz and Ribfest set for July

Hungry jazz fans should clear the calendar July 20-22 and head to Ohio’s capital for the 21st annual Columbus Jazz and Ribfest, a combination of free music and messy, delicious ribs.

Festival headliners Spyro Gyra, David Sanborn (pictured left), Joe Sample and Lonnie Brooks will bring a mix of smooth jazz, soul and blues into downtown Columbus for the weekend, along with local artists like the Urban Jazz Coalition and Yumbambe.

And music is only half the attraction. According to the festival’s website, “Two dozen of the finest ribbers you can find in the lower 48 will be on hand to serve up 100,000 pounds of lip-smacking goodness to an anticipated 700,000 people, the largest attendance of any rib festival in the country!” Sounds tasty.

Performance times and locations will be announced soon. For more information on how to get your growling stomachs to the festival, visit www.columbus.org/jazz. Don’t forget the antacid.
