Columbia Celebrates Miles Davis’ Birthday

Columbia Records is celebrating Miles Davis’ 75th birthday with eight historic releases. Five CDs – ‘Round About Midnight, Milestones, Miles Davis at Newport 1958 (available for the first time in complete form), Jazz at the Plaza (first time on CD), and Miles Davis & John Coltrane: The Best of the Complete Columbia Recordings 1955-1961 – will be issued on April 17. Set for May 15 releases are two double CD sets: The Essential Miles Davis, the first set to unite his Savoy, Blue Note, Prestige, Columbia, and Blue Note recordings, and Miles Davis Live at the Fillmore East (March 7, 1970: It’s About That Time), recorded a month before the release of Bitches Brew. To cap off the year is another box set: The Complete In a Silent Way Sessions, due in stores this September.
