Chuck Marohnic: Many Mansions

Mixing originals and standards, pianist Marohnic, bassist David Friesen, and drummer Joe LaBarbara or Alan Jones create the kind of interplay and lyrical impressionism originated by the Bill Evans Trio in its 1961 Village Vanguard albums. Marohnic also exhibits an extrapolative linear approach reminiscent of Keith Jarrett. Friesen and the drummers are perfect for the pianist’s free-flowing conception.

Highlights include Herbie Hancock’s “Speak Like a Child” and Marohnic’s swinging “Ascesis.”
