Pianist Cecil Taylor is returning to New York’s Blue Note in celebration of his 80th birthday this past March. Taylor has appeared often over the years at the Blue Note, including famed duos with the late great drummer Elvin Jones and trio concerts with his AHA 3. Widely considered one of the most inspiring and innovative pianists of improvised music, Taylor has made over 80 recordings as a leader. Taylor was a pioneer of free jazz in the ’60s and has continued to carry the torch for the avant-garde since then.
The show will take place Thursday, May 28, with sets at 8:00 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. Tickets are $35 for seating at a table or $20 to sit at the bar. The Blue Note is located at 131 W 3rd. St, New York, in Greenwich Village. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. and there is a $5.00 food and/or beverage minimum.
