After releasing her acclaimed 2003 CD, Glamoured, vocalist Cassandra Wilson is set to release her new album April 4. Her sixth release for Blue Note, thunderbird was produced by T Bone Burnett, known for his work with Elvis Costello, Roy Orbison, the Counting Crows and, of course, Spinal Tap.
thunderbird combines original compositions with a variety of previously recorded songs, including Jakob Dylan’s (of the Wallflowers) “Closer to You” and Blind Lemon Jefferson’s “Easy Rider.” Burnett also contributed the two tracks to the album.
Performing on the album are keyboardist (and co-producer) Keefus Ciancia, guitarists Marc Ribot and Colin Linden, Mike Elizondo on electric bass, Reginald Veal on acoustic bass and drummers Jim Keltner, Bill Maxwell and Jay Bellerose.
