This summer’s Caramoor International Music Festival will feature two consecutive Saturdays of jazz in Katonah, N.Y., just outside of NYC. The 14th annual festival will be held on July 28 and Aug. 4, and features an emphasis on Latin jazz as part of Caramoor’s Latin American Music Initiative, Sonidos Latinos. The two all-day concerts will be held in the outdoor Venetian Theater on the grounds of the Caramoor Estate, with hourly sets from 3 to 6:30 p.m., followed by a break for dinner, and sets again at 8 and 9 p.m.
Among the performers is Eddie Palmieri, the legend of salsa and Latin jazz and the winner of nine Grammy Awards, including the inaugural Best Latin Album in 1975 for The Sun of Latin Music. Puerto Rico-born tenor saxophonist David Sanchez will play with his quartet, kicking off the first day of the festival with their Latin and Afro-Caribbean sounds. The Caramoor’s Artistic Director of Jazz, Joe Lovano (pictured), will also perform twice as a special guest. See below for a full schedule of events.
Tickets for each all-day program cost $35 or $50, and can be ordered online or through the Caramoor Box Office at 914-232-1252.
