Cannonball Adderley Quintet: Paris, 1960

The soulful playing and crisp ensemble work that were the hallmarks of the Adderley Quintet are very much present on this CD, recorded on a JATP tour a year after their wildly successful In San Francisco LP. With Victor Feldman replacing Bobby Thomas, Cannonball and his “brass section” (i.e., Nat on cornet) give healthy workouts to seven tunes. The highlight is the Latin-themed “Bohemia After Dark. All good stuff, which makes one wonder why it sat in the can until now.
