Buddy’s Family Wants Riches

The patriarch was never one to suffer fools gladly, and neither does his family: Buddy Rich’s kin sued RCA Records and its parent company, BMG Music, claiming they didn’t pay royalties owed to his child and widow, Marie. The 12-count complaint was filed Fri. June 22 in the U.S. District Court in Los Angeles. Cathy Rich, Rich’s daughter, said in a statement, “It is regrettable that we have had to file this action, after the valuable relationship RCA Records has had with my father for many years.” The hugely talented and volatile Rich, who died in April 1987, was not available for comment but even if he were alive we’re not sure we could print his statement.
