Brubeck Joins JazzSchool

Pianist/legend/time signature wizard Dave Brubeck has become a member of the Advisory Board for the Jazzschool, a Berkely, Calif.-based academy for music education and performance not far from the University of the Pacific in Stockton, Calif., where the Brubeck Institute is located. I don’t know where Brubeck finds the time for all the projects and he’s involved with, but this position shouldn’t be too hard for him to handle. The Jazzschool already hosts performances by the Brubeck Institute Ensemble, and the group is the house band for the JazzSchool’s Friday jam sessions. Brubeck’s probably there a lot of the time anyway.

For more information about Jazzschool classes and concerts that are open to the public, call (510) 845-5373, or visit www.jazzschool.com.

In other Brubeck news, Concord’s current release schedule reveals that a new disc by the pianist, Concord On A Summer Night, will be out October 21. We don’t have any specifics, but the title suggests a live set, doesn’t it? That’s cool, because we’re about due for another version of “Take Five.”
