Brass Conference Will Honor George Wein

On April 11 and 12, 2003, the Park Central Hotel in New York City will be overrun by tooting horns in all registers as the 31st Annual Brass Conference and Music Festival presents a number of concerts showcasing new talent and established brass artists in Dixieland bands, jazz and classical quintets, brass choirs, big bands and jazz orchestras.

The conference will include a salute to jazz impresario George Wein (pictured), who every year produces the JVC Jazz Festival in New York City, among other festivals nationwide. The salute to Wein will be a musical one, with yet-to-be-named celebrity players soloing with the Duke Ellington Orchestra. Another tribute on the agenda is a concert dedicated to the swinging sounds of Latin trumpet player Alfredo “Chocolate” Armenteros.
