It’s the awkwardly named dance sensation that is sweeping the jam-band nation: Making Boxes and Putting Them Away. The dance involves making an imaginary box shape in the air with your hands, followed by a backward pushing motion as if moving the sqaure container behind one’s back. It doesn’t hurt to gyrate back and forth feverously during every step of the box making process.
The awkwardly named Deep Banana Blackout is a great band for box makers, and its third album, Feel The Peel, hits the stores July 21. The CD spans the gamut of the jam band’s sound, a spirited mix of soul, jazz, funk and pop, honed from constant touring with the likes of John Scofield and Medeski, Martin and Wood . The album is DBB’s first release since signing to Flying Frog Records, the label founded by Allman Brother’s Band drummer Butch Trucks. With producer Tom Dowd on board (Allman Brothers Band, Eric Clapton, John Coltrane), the press release promises the album is both “kind” and “radio friendly.” And perfect for the boxers.
