Blue Note to Release Lena Horne CD and DVD

Two Lena Horne releases will reach stores on Jan. 24, a collection of previously unreleased recordings and a concert DVD, both on Blue Note. The album, titled Season of a Life, was compiled by Horne’s longtime guitarist and musical director Rodney Jones and contains outtakes and rarities from a period of her career spanning 1994 through 2000. Her three Blue Note albums – 1994’sWe’ll Be Together Again, 1995’s An Evening With Lena Horne and 1998’s Being Myself – are included, as are takes from the 1998 soundtrack Lulu on the Bridge, 2000’s Classic Ellington and a previously unreleased session from 1995 featuring Herbie Hancock.

The concert DVD An Evening with Lena Horne was recorded Sept. 19, 1994 at the Supper Club as a television special for A&E. The concert was broadcast that December and was released on CD and VHS the following year, and makes its DVD debut this year. The concert featured Horne backed by her quintet and the Count Basie Orchestra on select tracks.
