Blue Note is expanding their digital repertoire with the release of eight live tracks from this year’s Monterey Jazz Festival. In a partnership between Blue Note, the Monterey Jazz Festival and MSN Music, eight tracks from Bill Charlap, Terence Blanchard and Don Byron (pictured) can be purchased online here.
“This is outstanding live material from top artists performed at a top festival and we wanted to make it available to as wide an audience as possible,” said Jeff Zakim, New Media Marketing Manager for Blue Note.
Rob Bennett, senior director of MSN Entertainment, expressed a similar opinion. “We’re pleased to offer jazz lovers these hot live cuts from this year’s Monterey Jazz Festival on MSN Music.”
The Bill Charlap Trio, consisting of pianist Charlap, bassist Peter Washington and drummer Kenny Washington, contributes the first four tracks: “God Child,” “The Best Thing for You,” “Round About” and “Curtains.” Tracks five and six are provided by trumpeter, composer and bandleader Terence Blanchard and his sextet, with performances of “Transform” and “Simply Over There.” The final two tracks are from clarinetist Don Byron, who performs with pianist Jason Moran and drummer Jack DeJohnette. The trio performs songs from their Blue Note recording Ivey-Divey and featured in this download are “I Covered the Waterfront” and Miles Davis’ “Freddie Freeloader.”
