For anyone searching for a ringtone for their cell phone, the days of choosing between 50 Cent’s “In Da Club” and the Super Mario Brothers theme song are over. Instead, jazz fans can now purchase ringtones featuring artists like Thelonious Monk, Herbie Hancock and Chet Baker as part of Blue Note Records’ The Best of Blue Tones.
According to Bruce Lundvall, President of EMI Jazz and Classics, the release of jazz ringtones will integrate and popularize the genre into the mobile music phenomenon. 24 tones are now available, with classics such as Art Blakey’s “Moanin,'” Miles Davis’ “Move” and Lee Morgan’s “The Sidewinder.”
As Blue Note’s Director of New Media Jeff Zakim indicated in a press release, this set of ringtones is only the first in a series. All tones will be made available to major carriers in the United States and internationally.
