Blanchard Signs to Blue Note

A victim in Columbia Records’ recent overhaul of its jazz artist roster, trumpeter-composer Terence Blanchard has signed with Blue Note Records. Blanchard spent part of February at Avatar Studios in New York City tracking his Blue Note debut with his working band: pianist Aaron Parks, bassist Brandon Owens, drummer Eric Harland, guitarist Lionel Loueke and saxophonist Brice Winston.

The record, as yet untitled and expected to hit stores in August or September, is co-produced by Blanchard and Michael Cuscuna, who will be throwing a kegger this evening in celebration of being mentioned in News two days in a row. Don Murray, known for his work on smooth jazz titles by Lee Ritenour, Fourplay and Hiroshima, engineered the album.
