Billy Higgins Benefit Concert In March

Charles Lloyd, Pharoah Sanders and Bobby Hutcherson will join up for a special all-star tribute concert to help defray the expenses incurred by drum master Billy Higgins due his current health condition. Yoshi’s, an Oakland jazz venue, will host the special benefit show on March 20. Other participating artists include some of Higgins’ closest associates, pianist William Henderson, bassist Larry Grenadier, and drummer Tony Austin. Other surprise special guests are expected. Higgins underwent a double liver transplant in March 1996 and is now facing the prospect of another transplant.

To purchase tickets, call Yoshi’s at (510) 238-9200. Donations can also be sent to: Billy Higgins, c/o Forest Farm Music and Art, P.O. Box 5816, Santa Barbara, CA 93150.
